Origine Nature competing against Canada’s best cannabis producers
Origine Nature is proud to be among the 13 finalists selected by the Canadian Cannabis Championship. Only the cream of the crop in the cannabis industry will be vying for the honours during the national finals, which will take place in Edmonton on May 28 and 29.
What do the judges look for in a competition of this calibre? How did these competitions come to be? Our team unravels the secrets of this event for you.
Alberta will soon welcome the industry’s leaders for the Grow Up conference, and Origine Nature will be part of the journey as a finalist in the Canadian Cannabis Championship, the only legal competition of its kind in Canada.
“The fact that we’re among the best producers in the country is a testament to our passion and love for the plant,” said Alexandre Gauthier, Director of Cultivation and VP of Research and Development.
“At Origine Nature, our main goal is to help people feel good! The fact that consumers and the industry’s experts consider our flowers worthy of being finalists in this prestigious competition is a true milestone in our history and validates all the efforts we make every day to fulfil our dream.”
How is the quality of a cannabis flower assessed?
The judges and consumers assess the flowers live based on four qualitative criteria: appearance, aroma, ash, and overall experience of the product.
Alexandre Gauthier believes this last criterion is going to be decisive: “The judges will have their own criteria based on years of experience and cannabis consumption. So, this competition is more focused on the consumption experience. The taste and effects will be the most important aspects, and they will share the experience that was considered satisfying by most people. Every consumer has their preferences, but they often prefer a strong taste with fast and strong effects.”
While competitions of this kind have been held in Canada for over 30 years, the industry can now take part in them legally. “This is all thanks to those who have risked their freedom to hold these gatherings in an industry that used to be very discreet.”
How does Origine Nature distinguish itself from its competitors?
The company’s R&D activities have led to a new level of expertise and knowledge in climate control and fertigation—a practice at the intersection of fertilization and irrigation—for cannabis cultivation.
“By rigorously controlling the parameters of cultivation, we can recreate our crops and deliver a consistent product,” explained Alexandre Gauthier. A true tour de force considering that the cannabis flower is derived from a living organism, namely the plant! “The culmination of these efforts helps us ensure that the consumer will always get the same experience, without having to worry about any unpleasant surprises.”
