Ever wonder how we select our cannabis strains? Today, we’re taking you on a journey into our world to help you better understand (and appreciate) the Origine Nature experience!

Growing cannabis: back to basics

First, we’ll explain the difference between strains, genetics and varieties. These terms are often used interchangeably, but each has a specific meaning. Get to know your cannabis!

Strains

A cannabis strain is generally the result of crossing various genetics to obtain particular characteristics. Strains are a particular type of cannabis with distinct characteristics in terms of flavour, aroma, effects, and THC/CBD content. Well-known strains include Sour Diesel, OG Kush and Blue Dream.

Genetics

Cannabis genetics are the hereditary characteristics passed on from a parent plant to its offspring. Growers and master growers study and manipulate genetics to create new strains that combine the most sought-after properties.

Varieties

The term “variety” refers to a group of plants with similar characteristics, often within the same species. In cannabis cultivation, a variety is a broad category of plants that share similar features in terms of growth and effects; these include the indica, sativa and hybrid varieties, just to name a few.

Now, let’s talk about how we select our strains at Origine Nature!

Which strains are the most popular with our master growers?

Hundreds of strains are currently available on the recreational and medical cannabis market. Each offers a unique combination of cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids that help deliver the precise effects consumers are looking for. At Origine Nature, we work with several proven strains.

These include Medellin, a Sativa-dominant hybrid strain with diesel, citrusy and spicy aromas. With its high THC level (between 23% and 30%), this strain is greatly appreciated by consumers for its stimulating, euphoric and relaxing effects.

Our master growers also work with a cross between S.A.G.E and Sour Diesel called Sage N’ Sour, which is reputed to promote creativity and whose terpene profile (caryophyllene, limonene and myrcene) makes it a highly popular strain that can be found in our Cherry on the Funday product.

Another strain, Cherry Noire, used in Niaise pas avec la puck by Origine Nature, has sweet and fruity aromas and euphoric, stimulating effects, with myrcene as the main terpene.

How are strains chosen at Origine Nature?

We always select our strains with the organization’s mission in mind: to make people feel good.

So the strains we choose must have the characteristics our customers are looking for: high THC content, powerful aromas, specific cannabinoid profiles and stimulating, euphoric, energizing and relaxing effects. Our teams also evaluate trichome structure, terpene quality and more. Together, these elements represent what we call the ideal phenotype.

Over the years, thanks to our active presence in the industry since the legalization of cannabis, Origine Nature has succeeded in building and maintaining a strong network of trusted partners, particularly in Quebec. As a result, our cannabis strains are always sourced from the best suppliers and selected for their consistency and high quality.

What’s more, Origine Nature has developed an advanced program, similar to those for sommeliers in the wine industry, which enables our growers to acquire knowledge on an ongoing basis as well as a wealth of information, including consumers’ demographic profile to better understand their expectations. Our teams also carry out inspections and organoleptic tests on all cultivated flowers, which are then graded according to the Origine Nature’s quality standards.

In short, Origine Nature selects only top-quality strains that offer what you’re really looking for: a friendly and authentic experience that you can share!
